August 27, 2007My life with ChickenWent for a two-hour walk with our chicken this afternoon. A very slow, silly, and animated, meandering walk. We were explorers in our own neighbourhood. We saw the ducks at the nearby park; discovered an army of ants marching single-file down the side-walk; dandelions, chestnuts, acorns and a bright red maple leaf (a sure harbinger of fall). By far, our favourite discovery was a ladybug, resting on a twig. And how do I feel? Playful, fortunate, energized, liberated, blessed and truly thankful. Poetry Train Monday # 4- Magda & Georgios at the Cancer ClinicThe Appointment (Or: Meditations, Superstitions and Lies) “Who says our childhood years are the most carefree? No, no Magda. They are bitter, tormented years - when you want and want, and the grown-ups keep saying, ‘Don’t this, don’t that’; and the world outside your door is an infinite sea you cannot grasp. You are a small boat without anchor. In the distance you see Ithaca and you long to grasp this mythical place. You wish to count it on all your ten fingers. You extend your reach when whap, whap the teacher’s ruler snaps against the back of your right hand making you cringe as if you’ve touched the bloated body of a dead man. ” Hop on Board Rhian’s Poetry Train! the view from hereAugust 26, 2007August 25, 2007Do you know Leslie?Leslie is the creative genius behind the Paper Princess: A vintage inspired paperie. It seems I’m both a book nerd and Snoopy sidekick!
You are Woodstock! Take this quiz! Are we there yet?In the last 10 days, people searching (googling) for the following have been led to chicken-scratch. Some connections leave me scratching my head and asking - are we there yet? 1. in memoriam (OK, I do have a number of entries that deal with death, dying and memory) 2. christine needs (To find the time to start writing/blogging regularly) 3. cows of Zurich pictures (Who knew that the cow exhibit I am so fond of has traveled to Zurich too?) 4. chicken races (Do chickens race?) 5. duty free schipol (Ah, yes, our trip to Europe almost 2 years ago now) 6. lessons from mom (I think of my mom everyday and can hardly believe that she’s been gone for 8 months) 7. action speaks louder but pen mightier contradict (I guess someone is learning Latin/Greek maxims?) 8. father gave me an enema (?????) 9. names of the research and their opinions about punctuation marks (I guess people spend their lives dedicated to punctuation usage and its influence on our culture?) 10. gossie stuffed (I’m guessing someone wants to learn how to cook a goose, or are they solely interested in taxidermy?) August 18, 2007August 14, 2007SPAMWith huge apologies to my regular readers and commentators but chicken-scratch seems to be getting more SPAM than usual. I’ve increased security to my site. In doing so, I inadvertently erased all the feedback received for last week’s Thursday Thirteen entry. Your comments are vitally important … and my ineptitude … well, it’s as annoying as all the junk e-mail in my in box. My SPAM filter seems to be in working order now. So all is good with the universe. I do hope to be hearing from you soon. August 12, 2007Blank pagesno longer need to be feared. August 4, 2007Bad, Bad BloggerI haven’t been posting much lately as my work/life balance is a bit out of whack. My increased responsibilities at work mean longer days and less time to spend with the chicken (who turns 2 today) at home. It’s the BC Day long weekend and we’re celebrating EM’s birthday with family and friends. My regular posts will resume … soon. Hope you’re all enjoying the lazy days of summer. |
